Baku hosts 58th Session of Executive Council of International Civil Defence Organization -VIDEO

The 58th session of the Executive Council of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) has commenced in Baku, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan told APA.

The session, attended by the heads of emergency management agencies from ICDO member countries, will last for two days.

On July 8, the official opening ceremony of the 58th session of the ICDO Executive Council took place.

After the ICDO anthem was performed, the Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Kamaladdin Heydarov delivered the opening speech. Welcoming the participants of the session, the Minister noted that our country, which is dynamically developing under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, has hosted many prestigious international events in recent years, and the session of the ICDO Executive Council is one such significant event.

The Minister stated that our country attaches great importance to the development of international cooperation in the prevention of emergencies and the elimination of their consequences and emphasized the significance of the International Civil Defence Organization in organizing global and coordinated activities in combating disasters.

Minister Kamaladdin Heydarov provided general information on the work carried out in recent years in the field of combating emergency situations in our country and wished success to the session.

Then, the President of the Organization's Executive Council, Minister for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Natural Disaster Relief of the Russian Federation, Alexander Kurenkov, and the Acting Secretary-General of ICDO, Roman Lapin, spoke about the importance of the session and upcoming issues.

Then, a review on the implementation of the decisions of the 57th session of the Executive Council and a report by Acting Secretary-General Roman Lapin on the activities of the ICDO during the intersessional period were heard.

It should be noted that the 58th session of the ICDO Executive Council, which will continue until July 9, is expected to discuss the organization's financial and administrative reports, medium-term development priorities, goals and areas of activity, and an action plan to strengthen international cooperation based on the presentation of the Development Strategy, as well as to adopt relevant decisions and to determine the theme of the 2027 World Civil Defence Day.
