A conference dedicated to the island of St. Martin, under the colonial rule of France and the Netherlands, was held under the organization of the Baku Initiative Group, APA reports.
The conference was attended by members of parliament, public figures, and representatives of the island in question.
The Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group, Abbas Abbasov, stated that the organization he leads supports the fight against colonialism to be conducted within the framework of international law.
He also spoke about the activities of the Baku Initiative Group in supporting peoples living under colonial conditions:
"To date, we have carried out a number of activities on both local and international platforms to support the freedom struggle of peoples living under colonial conditions in New Caledonia and Martinique islands. We support ending colonialism solely through fighting within the framework of the norms of international law."
Franklin Meyers, a member of the Parliament of St. Martin, emphasized that liberation from colonialism is the fundamental right of any people living under such conditions.
He expressed gratitude to the Baku Initiative Group for their support in this endeavor: "We believe that organizing similar conferences is an extremely important step toward progressing toward our primary idea of independence. We thank the Baku Initiative Group for their support in this direction."
