Azerbaijan’s selection as COP29 host is a result of global community's confidence in its ability - Milli Majlis

"As the climate crisis worsens, the task of eliminating the negative impacts of climate change becomes increasingly difficult," the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, said during the Parliamentary Meeting organized jointly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan as part of COP29, APA reports.

Sahiba Gafarova noted that more time is needed to combat climate change: “In this situation, there is a need for us to strengthen our involvement. We must further improve our legislation, encourage our governments to mobilize their efforts more effectively, and pressure them to fulfill their commitments. Increasing cooperation with civil society will help us better understand their concerns.”

The Speaker also pointed out that Azerbaijan’s selection as the host of COP29 is a result of the global community's confidence in Azerbaijan's ability and experience to serve as a bridge.
