Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry participates in 19th Non-Aligned Movement Ministerial Meeting

The 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) was held in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, on October 15-16, 2025, the Azerbajian MFA told APA.

Within the framework of the Kampala Ministerial Meeting, views were exchanged on strengthening international peace and security, promoting sustainable development, increasing the institutional capacity of the Movement, as well as the situation in the Middle East and other topical agenda issues.

The Republic of Azerbaijan was represented at the event by a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Samir Sharifov.

Speaking at the opening segment of the meeting, Samir Sharifov touched upon the initiatives implemented by Azerbaijan during its chairmanship, including its contributions to the institutional development of the Movement, and stressed the importance of strengthening solidarity and unity among member states. The Deputy Minister informed the participants about the latest progress on the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization agenda and the large-scale restoration and reconstruction work carried out in our liberated territories.

As the former Chairman of the Movement and the current member of the Troika, Azerbaijan was also represented at the meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the NAM on Palestine. Deputy Minister S. Sharifov emphasized the participation of the Azerbaijani head of state in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit on October 13, 2025, and drew attention to the fact that Azerbaijan is one of the few members of the Movement to be invited to the summit and its importance, the importance of the early establishment of lasting peace and security in the Middle East based on the two-state principle, as well as our country's humanitarian initiatives in the region.

Several bilateral meetings were held within the framework of the meeting, and agreements were signed between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uganda on the mutual exemption of holders of diplomatic and service passports, and between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Republic of Somalia on the mutual exemption of holders of diplomatic passports from visas.

The signing of the above-mentioned documents serves to expand bilateral relations of the Republic of Azerbaijan with African countries, facilitate mutual visits, and further develop diplomatic relations.
