Azerbaijan's Deputy PM: Opening communications is a historic opportunity in the region

The signed Joint Declaration affirms the importance of opening communications between Azerbaijan and Armenia, said Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev at the special meeting dedicated to President Ilham Aliyev’s Washington visit held at the Cabinet of Ministers, APA reports.

He noted that the part of the project that holds strategic importance for Azerbaijan is ensuring unhindered movement to Nakhchivan: “The opening of the new corridor will serve this purpose. The new corridor passing through Zangezur, which has significant importance between Europe and Asia, will boost economic growth. The corridor is not just an infrastructure project. This corridor, as an alternative to existing routes, will have greater transmission capacity. The transportation capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway has been increased to 5 million tons per year.”

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the opening of communications is a historic opportunity for the region: “The implementation of the documents signed in Washington will not only ensure the opening of communications but also establish trust between the states in our region.”
