"Garabagh itself was a colonial territory. The political forces that ruled the world kept Garabagh in bondage. The Garabagh issue was a stone, and Azerbaijan was freed from this stone. It was as if we had fought a world war," Zahid Oruj, Azerbaijani MP, Chairman of the Board of the Social Research Center, said this at the international conference on "Reunion's Independence: A Look at France's Colonial Legacy and the Path to Sovereignty" held in Baku, APA reports.

He emphasized that although there are those within Azerbaijan who cite the gross domestic product of colonial states as an example, this factor is not at all equivalent to national freedom:

"We need to know why colonial states keep colonial countries in bondage. If the Baku Initiative Group is already worrying the French political elite, this is a great result achieved in a short time. The Patriotic War strengthened Azerbaijan's political position on a global scale. The victory in Garabagh moved the political rocks of the world. The Reunionists are seeking political and historical consciousness. There are those within Azerbaijan who cite the gross domestic product of colonial states as an example. These cannot replace national freedom. France's colonies serve as a venue for world wars and a springboard for nuclear weapons. Azerbaijan's victory in Garabagh is an example for the world. For years, we have been asking for help from the international community, including France. But in the end, we restored our territorial integrity ourselves."
