"We firmly reject the statement issued on 30 July by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, which casts doubt on the judicial proceedings concerning French national Martin Ryan and contains unfounded allegations against our country," noted in the Commentary by Aykhan Hajizada, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on the statement of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs regarding the verdict against Martin Ryan, APA reports.
"The criminal case against Martin Ryan was investigated in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the court rendered its judgment based on the evidence presented and the charges brought against him. The decision of the court of appeal is likewise the outcome of judicial proceedings conducted in full compliance with the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In this regard, attempts by the French side to politicize the judicial process, issue statements constituting interference in the activities of Azerbaijan’s independent judiciary, and make allegations of “arbitrary detention” and an “unfair trial” are unacceptable.
Throughout the judicial proceedings, the procedural rights of the defendant were fully ensured in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the country’s international obligations. Furthermore, the attendance of consular representatives of the French Embassy at all court hearings once again confirms that the proceedings were conducted in a transparent manner.
We urge the French side to respect the sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan, refrain from interfering in its internal affairs and independent judicial system, and abstain from making unfounded allegations that undermine bilateral relations," reads the Commentary.
