On 25 August 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for Europe, North America and the Overseas Territories, Stephen Doughty, MFA told APA.
During the meeting, the sides discussed cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom in the areas of politics, economy, energy security, connectivity, climate change and environment, humanitarian issues, education, as well as regional and international security matters of mutual interest.
It was noted that Azerbaijan has proven itself a reliable partner in the field of energy security through its role as an initiator and key implementer of large-scale projects. The importance of continuing the positive dynamics of cooperation in the sphere of traditional energy into the development of alternative energy sources was emphasized. In this regard, the establishment of cooperation between SOCAR and BP in renewable energy was commended.
Within the framework of Azerbaijan’s presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the active participation and contributions of the Prime Minister and the delegation of the United Kingdom were noted with satisfaction.
In the field of education, the significance of joint initiatives, the establishment of new partnerships between higher education institutions, as well as the importance of state programs and the continuation of efforts in this direction were underlined.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed his counterpart in detail about the current situation and realities in the region during the post-conflict period, as well as the progress of the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization and peace process.
It was emphasized that the initialing of the text of the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia” within the framework of the historic Washington meeting of 8 August 2025, as well as the submission of a joint appeal regarding the closure of the OSCE Minsk Process and its related structures, were among the significant achievements in the peace process.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
On the same day, political consultations were held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom. The consultations were co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Fariz Rzayev, and the UK’s Minister of State for Europe, North America and the Overseas Territories, Stephen Doughty.
