Azerbaijani FM meets with the Secretary General of the BSEC

On January 31, 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Secretary General of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) Lazar Comănescu, MFA told APA.

According to the information, during the meeting, discussions were held on Azerbaijan-BSEC cooperation, Azerbaijan's chairmanship for the Organization in the first half of 2025, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that the BSEC is one of the important platforms in terms of promoting and advancing regional cooperation, and emphasized that Azerbaijan supports further strengthening the existing cooperation within the framework of the Organization.

Azerbaijan's initiatives in regional economic, trade, energy security, transport, communications, tourism sectors were mentioned, especially, the "green energy" corridor project connecting the Caspian, Black, and Mediterranean Seas, as well as efforts to develop the "Middle Corridor" being one of the major directions were noted.

The issues of increasing joint efforts within the energy, good governance, and other working groups within the Organization were also discussed.

The parties, speaking about Azerbaijan's presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), highlighted the importance of some key decisions made during this prestigious event held in Azerbaijan last year, on the new climate finance target, carbon markets, and the Loss and Damage Fund and the importance of joint action on climate activities with BSEC.

During the meeting, regional issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
