Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with visiting Guinea-Bissau's Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities Carlos Pinto Pereira and his delegation on Monday, APA reports.
The meeting began with one-on-one talks, followed by an expanded session with the participation of both countries' delegations.
The meeting centered on prospects for bilateral and multilateral collaboration between Azerbaijan and Guinea-Bissau, across political, economic, humanitarian, tourism, energy and other domains.
Minister Bayramov stressed that high-level visits and mutual contacts play an essential role in advancing the relationship between the two countries. He highlighted the importance of Guinea-Bissau’s president's visit to Azerbaijan during the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), as well as the meeting between the two heads of state during this visit.
Bayramov also emphasized the importance of establishing a political consultation mechanism to further discuss the future development of bilateral ties.
The ministers agreed on the importance of sharing experiences in economic and trade relations, exploring natural resources, and improving public service, as well as utilizing scholarship programs and educational collaboration opportunities. Bayramov noted Azerbaijan's willingness to cooperate with Guinea-Bissau on implementing the "ASAN khidmet" model to provide public services to citizens.
Noting that Azerbaijan attaches special significance to further developing relations with African countries, including Guinea-Bissau, Bayramov mentioned the importance of the resolution on “Ensuring equitable, affordable, timely and universal access for all countries to vaccines in response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic” adopted during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement. He also pointed out the importance of the two calls made to support African countries and small island states in the post-pandemic period.
Both sides agreed on continuing their joint efforts to advance common interests within multilateral frameworks, particularly the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement.
Bayramov also provided an update on the situation in the region post-conflict, ongoing reconstruction efforts in the liberated territories, and the challenges facing the peace process with Armenia.
Following the meeting, Bayramov and Pereira signed a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations between Azerbaijan and Guinea-Bissau. The ministers then held a press conference to discuss the outcomes of their meeting.
