A delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev is on a visit to Syria, APA reports citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

As part of the visit, a meeting was held on December 29 between Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiyev and Foreign Minister of the Syrian transitional government Assad Hassan Ash-Shibani.

During the meeting, the Azerbaijani side conveyed the congratulations of the Azerbaijani leadership on the beginning of a new stage for the stability of the Syrian state and the well-being of the people, as well as the coming to power of the representatives of the people.

It was stated that Azerbaijan, together with the Republic of Turkey, stands by Syria at this newly established important stage.

It was stated that our country will provide all possible support in the process of restoring Syria.

It was emphasized that, in addition to humanitarian assistance activities, Azerbaijan will provide the necessary support to the new government at the diplomatic level.

The Deputy Minister also drew attention to the fact that the experience of Azerbaijan, which has liberated its lands from occupation, in the field of reconstruction and construction can be used in the process of restoring Syria.

Minister Ash-Shibani expressed that the liberation of Azerbaijan's lands from occupation was an important event for the establishment of peace in the region and the world, and congratulated the Azerbaijani people and leadership on this occasion. He called the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, a fighting leader, and compared the coming to power of the people in Syria with the historical victory of Azerbaijan. The Minister stated that the main goal of the new Syrian government is to live in peace with neighboring states and achieve national unity through dialogue with all parties within the country.

Drawing attention to the legacy of the old regime, which left behind a Syria that was disintegrated and isolated by the world community, Minister Ash-Shibani drew attention to the priority of socio-economic development, national and political unity, and increasing Syria's prestige internationally.

The parties noted that they agreed on opening a new page in the long-standing relations between Azerbaijan and Syria, aimed at cooperation and friendship. In this regard, it was brought to the attention of the other side that the Azerbaijani embassy in Damascus is planned to resume its activities as soon as possible after 12 years.

Finally, the Syrian Foreign Minister was invited to visit our country to strengthen the newly established relations. Minister Ash-Shibani accepted the invitation with pleasure and said that they would be pleased to see Azerbaijani representatives in Syria regularly.
