Azerbaijani delegation participates in 71st annual session of NATO PA

The 71st Annual Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) is being held in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, Mission of Azerbaijan to NATO told APA.

Delegations from 32 member countries of the Alliance, as well as partner states, are participating in the session, which is taking place from October 10 to 13.

Within the framework of the session, discussions have been held on the security challenges facing NATO; strengthening the Alliance’s defense and resilience, including on the eastern flank; the new architecture of NATO’s defense spending; Europe’s and the Transatlantic region’s defense industries; the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement; a safe and stable future for the Western Balkans; the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security; threats to the wider Black Sea region; threats to allies’ critical maritime infrastructure; hybrid threats in the Euro-Atlantic area; geo-economic fragmentation; the development of North American and European defense; partnership prospects with the Indo-Pacific region; the war in Ukraine; the Arctic; science and technology in a multipolar world; outer space; cybersecurity; the application of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence; the future of drone warfare; and other topics.

The reports adopted by the Assembly also reflect Azerbaijan’s contribution to the energy security of allied and partner countries, the role of women in humanitarian demining in Azerbaijan, and other provisions corresponding to the country’s national interests.

The delegation of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the NATO PA, led by MP Ramid Namazov, and the Mission of Azerbaijan to NATO are taking part in the session.

During the visit, the delegation held meetings with the parliamentary delegations of Türkiye, Italy, Serbia, Hungary, Belgium, Slovakia, Latvia, Romania, and other allied and partner countries. The meetings focused on cooperation within the Azerbaijan–NATO PA framework, Azerbaijan’s contribution to the energy security of allied and partner nations, and other issues of mutual interest. A meeting was also held between the Azerbaijani delegation and the newly elected Secretary General of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Ms. Benedetta Berti.
