On June 1, a meeting was held on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the Astara state border checkpoint between delegations led by Chief of the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Elchin Guliyev, and Deputy Commander of the Law Enforcement Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Major General Ghasem Rezaei, the Press Center of the State Border Service told APA.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation on the Azerbaijan-Iran state border and at border crossing points, measures being implemented to ensure border security, the organization of border protection along the section of the Azerbaijan-Iran state border located in the territories liberated from occupation, as well as efforts aimed at establishing new transport and communication links between the East Zangezur Economic Region of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
During the discussions, the dynamic development of cooperation between the border protection agencies of the two countries was highly appreciated, and the importance of further strengthening cooperation in combating smuggling, the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as other manifestations of transnational crime across the state border was emphasized.
The sides noted that holding such meetings makes an important contribution to the development of relations and the strengthening of cooperation between the border protection agencies.
The meeting was held in an atmosphere of friendship, mutual trust, and understanding.
