Azerbaijan to impose age limit for diplomatic service
# 13 December 2024 13:18 (UTC +04:00)

The age limit for diplomatic service employees appointed to a position by a body (institution) determined by the relevant executive authority is 65 years, this was reflected in the new draft law on "Diplomatic Service" discussed at today’s meeting of the Parliamentary Committees on Legal Policy and State Building, and on International Relations and Interparliamentary Relations, APA reports.

Under the draft, the term of service for diplomatic service employees who have reached the age of 65 can be extended for up to 5 years, but not more than 1 year at a time, by the head of the relevant executive authority or institution. Accordingly, the number of diplomatic service employees whose terms of service are extended should not exceed 15% of the total staff of diplomatic service bodies.

The draft law was put to a vote and adopted on the first reading.
