Azerbaijan reveals countries that provided assistance for demining and amount of funds

The countries that provided financial and technical assistance to Azerbaijan in the field of mine clearance have been revealed, this is reflected in the report of the Cabinet of Ministers for 2024, APA reports.

It was noted that Azerbaijan has demonstrated diplomatic activity in international formats to raise awareness about humanitarian mine clearance operations and attract international aid for these operations, also conducted dialogues with international organizations such as the UN, UNESCO, EU, and NATO, as well as with several countries on ways to cooperate in eliminating the mine problem in the country.

As a result of bilateral efforts, several foreign countries have provided financial and technical assistance to Azerbaijan in the field of mine clearance. These include Germany with 500,000 euros, Belgium with 250,000 euros, China with 500,000 yuan, Italy with 1.5 million euros, and the UAE with 5 million USD in financial support. Additionally, mine detection dogs have been donated to the country by Croatia and the Marshall Legacy Institute operating in the United States. In terms of multilateral support, the EU established the "European Command Initiative" for Azerbaijan, and it has been announced that 2 million euros will be allocated from the European Commission's budget to support the mine problem in the country. In June of the reporting year, the European External Action Service also announced that an additional 10 million euros would be allocated to Azerbaijan for the years 2024-2025.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will provide 8 million dollars in support for mine clearance activities in Azerbaijan.
