"Azerbaijan has invited Armenia to participate in COP29. But it is their choice whether to participate or not," Aykhan Hajizada, Head of the Press Service Department of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told journalists, APA reports.

"As you know, significant discussions are taking place here. Climate change is one of the major problems threatening the world. 198 states are members of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Within this framework, important discussions are being continued in the direction of eliminating the mentioned threat. Contributing to meaningful discussions should be a top priority for every member state. We do not comment on whether Armenia participates or not. The decision to participate is up to them," he said.

The MFA official reminded that during the conflict period, the cross-border rivers between Azerbaijan and Armenia were polluted on a large scale by Armenia: "Examples of this include the Okhchuchay and other rivers. In this regard, Azerbaijan has initiated an arbitration process. Steps have been taken to hold Armenia accountable, and this process is being continued."

Aykhan Hajizada emphasized that Azerbaijan's priorities as COP chair are known: "Azerbaijan envisions taking appropriate measures to transition to green energy and reduce carbon emissions in the long term. Significant projects are being implemented by Azerbaijan in the direction of transitioning to green energy. These projects are also of great importance in terms of diversifying Azerbaijan's energy infrastructure."
