Azerbaijan, IAEA sign Country Programme Framework for technical cooperation

Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met Wednesday with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the margins of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Ministry told APA.

During the meeting, the parties hailed the current level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and IAEA. The two exchanged views on the joint projects, as well as prospects for cooperation.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the protection and further strengthening of nuclear security, and supports efforts on enhancing international cooperation in this regard.

He noted that the International Atomic Energy Agency plays a crucial role in the development of rules and standards of the nuclear safety and ensuring nuclear security and energy for peaceful purposes.

The minister underscored the IAEA activity on technical cooperation, especially the practical importance of the relations between Azerbaijan and the Agency in the fields of agriculture, medicine, petrochemicals and environment.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the opportunities for cooperation within Azerbaijan's hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The parties also signed the Country Programme Framework for 2024-2029, which envisages the technical cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan.
