The importance of joint efforts for the full operation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway should be especially noted, as a result of additional investment by Azerbaijan and the efforts of Georgia, the cargo carrying capacity on the line has increased from one million to 5 million, said Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov at the opening of the 10th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan, APA reports.
The head of government emphasized that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is already one of the important elements of the Middle Corridor.
"The Baku International Trade Port, one of the largest trade ports of the Caspian Sea, is an important link in the Middle Corridor. Currently, active work is underway to increase the port's cargo-carrying capacity from 15 million tons to 25 million tons per year. The Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi are also important elements of the Middle Corridor. We are very glad that today the relevant agencies will sign a memorandum of cooperation in the field of the transport corridor. All this strengthens the role of Azerbaijan and Georgia as important transit links in intercontinental transactions," the Azerbaijani Prime Minister said.
