On June 24, 2025, during the 12th session of the States Parties to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, held in New York, Azerbaijan was elected as a member of the UN Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (CMW) for the 2026–2029 term, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.
Candidates from seven countries, including Azerbaijan, competed for the vacant seats in a competitive election. The representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan received the highest number of votes among all candidates in the first round of voting and was elected as a member of the Committee.
The States Parties to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families are composed of 14 independent experts who monitor the implementation of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.
In addition to this Committee, Azerbaijan is also represented on other UN human rights treaty bodies, including the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women and the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
