The “Treaty on Eternal Friendship between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan” was signed by the heads of state today during President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to Uzbekistan, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Tashkent reports.
The Treaty states that the two countries, guided by the universally recognized principles and norms of international law, base their relations on eternal friendship, mutual trust, strategic partnership and alliance, and support each other in choosing development paths and models consistent with their respective national realities.
Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan also undertake not to participate in any blocs or alliances that undermine the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the other party; not to allow their territories to be used by third countries for purposes detrimental to the state sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the other party; and not to permit the establishment or activities on their territories of organizations or groups that undermine the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the other party.
In addition, the parties undertake to cooperate in the following areas:

reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening the central role of the United Nations in the prevention and settlement of conflicts, as well as in addressing regional and global security challenges;

facilitating the expansion of ties between the parliaments of the two countries, strengthening the social and public foundations for the development of friendship between their peoples, and enhancing legal cooperation in all areas;

developing trade, economic and investment cooperation on the principles of equality and mutual benefit, and facilitating the implementation of joint projects in energy, transport and logistics, digital development, agriculture, the green and digital economy, e-commerce, information and communication technologies, space technologies, as well as other areas of mutual interest;

creating the necessary conditions to further strengthen an interconnected transport system aimed at ensuring convenient and mutually beneficial transportation of goods and passengers, as well as increasing the transit potential of transport corridors;

providing comprehensive support for preserving the spiritual, educational and cultural closeness between the peoples of the two countries, and developing exchanges and cooperation in science, education, medicine, culture, cultural heritage, youth affairs, tourism and sports, as well as other areas of mutual interest;

creating conditions for the mutual teaching of the Azerbaijani and Uzbek languages, developing direct cooperation between scientific and educational institutions, and implementing joint projects;

supporting the development of interregional cooperation and promoting the establishment of partnership ties between cities and regions;

promoting cooperation to advance the tourism potential of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan and increase awareness of their tourism products.
