On February 27, 2026, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov received a delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov, the Azerbaijani MFA told APA.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the dynamic development of political dialogue aimed at further strengthening the friendly and brotherly relations between the two countries. The importance of high-level and senior-level visits and contacts was emphasized. In this context, the parties recalled with satisfaction the visit of Azerbaijan’s President to Turkmenistan last year and the visit of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, to Azerbaijan, as well as the outcomes achieved.
During the meeting, in line with the nature of the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, the sides reviewed opportunities to expand cooperation in trade and economy, energy, transport and logistics, including cooperation in the Caspian Sea, as well as in humanitarian and cultural spheres, and discussed prospects for further development.
In this framework, it was underlined that the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on cooperation in the economic and humanitarian spheres plays an important role in advancing bilateral relations. The importance of holding Turkmen Culture Days in Azerbaijan last year and Azerbaijan Culture Days in Turkmenistan this year was noted. The sides also highlighted the significance of promoting shared cultural values such as carpet weaving and horse breeding.
An exchange of views was also held on current regional and international issues, with emphasis placed on further enhancing cooperation within multilateral platforms.
The parties expressed confidence that the historically established traditional ties of friendship and brotherhood between the two peoples would continue to develop further on the basis of partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.
Other bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
On the same day, the next round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan was held.
The political consultations were led by Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov on the Azerbaijani side and Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmet Gurbanov on the Turkmen side.
