"The President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a telephone conversation regarding the issues in Syria, and congratulations were conveyed to the Syrian people," Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan Hikmat Hajiyev told journalists, APA reports.
According to Hikmet Hajiyev, after the collapse of the Assad regime, Azerbaijan hopes that stability will be restored in Syria: "At the same time, we also hope that normal relations will be formed between Azerbaijan and Syria, and bilateral relations will develop on the basis of friendly relations."
Assistant to the President recalled that the previous regime in Syria created problems for Azerbaijan in a number of international organizations: "Syria was reserved in its stance on issues related to Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. Even within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, there were statements that were contrary to Islamic solidarity."
