"Although the situation is different in Britain, there are still Islamophobia problems,” said Afzal Khan, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain, former Shadow Minister for Exports, at a panel discussion titled “A call for global dialogue to encourage tolerance, peace and respect for human rights and religious diversity” within the framework of the international scientific conference on the “Embracing Diversity: Tackling Islamophobia in 2024” held in Baku, APA reports.

He said that he resigned from his position in protest of what happened in Gaza:

“Although the situation is different in Britain, there’re still Islamophobia problems. The latest reports show that 35 % of British Muslims have been attacked or insulted because of their religion. Muslims in Britain live in poverty, they apply more for jobs but they are 8 times more likely to be rejected than others. They sometimes face discrimination because of their names. There is even such an approach that the Muslim community wants to invade Britain.”

He reminded that he after being elected to the British Parliament, he took the oath in his mother language Urdu, along with English and after that, he faced insults in social media:

“All these discriminations make the lives of Muslims even more, hinders the integration. The combat against Islamophobia should also start with the combat against racism. Supporting initiatives in the fight against Islamophobia is necessary, and the West should also support it. It is necessary to support such initiatives of countries like Azerbaijan".
