Ambassador: Venezuela has over $20 billion in frozen assets

In 2014, Venezuela's foreign exchange earnings were $39 billion, but in 2020, this figure decreased to $743 million, said Venezuelan Ambassador to Azerbaijan Christopher Martinez Berroteran in his speech at the conference "Venezuela, Latin America and the Caribbean Peace Zone", APA reports.

According to him, more than $20 billion of Venezuelan assets in 29 international banks and 3 multinational organizations have been frozen.

"The former US President signed a document declaring Venezuela an extraordinary threat to the United States. After the signing of this document, we were subjected to severe sanctions. Due to the sanctions, we lost $40 billion annually for 7 years starting in 2015," the Venezuelan ambassador noted.

Christopher Martinez Berroteran added that "the US Navy attacked Venezuelan fishing boats in the Caribbean Sea and accused them of drug transit, but no evidence was presented that the fishermen were transporting drugs."
