"Azerbaijan is a trusted partner of the European Union," Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Azerbaijan, Ambassador Peter Michalko said at the III International Demining Conference, APA reports.

He noted that the news of human casualties as a result of mine explosions disappoints the Union he represents:

"Today, conflicts in various parts of the planet cause concern. I believe that the number one priority is clearing the mine-polluted territories of Azerbaijan. International donors also participate in carrying out this activity together with ANAMA. Demining is a process with great significance both for the government and the public. We believe that both international organiztions and the government are fulfilling all their duties in this process in Azerbaijan. This aims to accelerate the return of people who have held the status of internally displaced persons until recently, to their homes. Providing technical support to Azerbaijan in this field will allow the country to carry out demining work faster. There is also cooperation between ANAMA and UNICEF in this field. In my opinion, all the international partners of Azerbaijan are ready to provide support to the country in the activity of demining. This includes both the governments of individual countries and civil society organizations. This is also support for peace, stability, and security," Ambassador Peter Michalko stressed.
