Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met today with Abraham Hamade, a member of the US House of Representatives who is visiting the country, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.
The Speaker touched upon the role of the United States and President Donald Trump in supporting peace and stability in the region, highlighting the Washington Summit and its successful outcomes in this context.
During the meeting, the importance of the initialing of the peace agreement in Washington and the signing of the trilateral Joint Declaration for restoring peace and stability in the region was emphasized. It was also noted that the TRIPP corridor would make a significant contribution to the development of regional transport connectivity and the deepening of peace and cooperation in the region.
Sahiba Gafarova drew attention to the historic significance of President Ilham Aliyev's recent visits to Washington and his meetings with President Donald Trump for the development of bilateral relations. She also highlighted the importance of the signing of the Charter on Strategic Partnership between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States of America during Vice President J.D. Vance's visit to Azerbaijan.
Abraham Hamade expressed his desire to see the Speaker of Azerbaijan's Parliament at the US Congress.
The congressman also touched upon the importance of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The Speaker highly appreciated the activities of members of Congress who have taken initiatives to strengthen bilateral relations and remove obstacles that do not reflect the current realities of partnership between the two countries. In this regard, she highlighted Abraham Hamade's role as a co-sponsor of the bill introduced in the US Congress to repeal Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act.
She also spoke about the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia and referred to her four meetings with the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament.
The meeting also addressed the development of relations between the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and the US Congress.
