8th meeting of Azerbaijan-Tajikistan Intergovernmental Commission held in Baku

The 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan was held in Baku today, APA reports, citing the Cabinet of Ministers.

The meeting was co-chaired by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov and Tajikistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Usmonali Usmonzoda.

The sides highlighted the growth in trade turnover and transit transportation between the two countries and discussed expanding cooperation in industry, investment, agriculture, energy, transport and logistics, tourism, education and humanitarian fields.

Tajik companies were invited to take advantage of opportunities created in Azerbaijan’s industrial parks and the Alat Free Economic Zone. It was also noted that Tajikistan’s participation in Middle Corridor projects would contribute to regional cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, a memorandum on the establishment of a Business Council between AZPROMO and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan, an agreement on educational quotas, and the protocol of the Joint Commission were signed.

It was also stated that the Azerbaijan-Tajikistan business forum to be held in Baku on May 22 will create opportunities to discuss new areas of cooperation.
