The illegal import of medicines into Azerbaijan has been prevented as a result of comprehensive operational and customs control measures carried out by employees of the Main Customs Department for Air Transport, APA-Economics reports, citing the State Customs Committee.
An Azerbaijani citizen arriving on an Istanbul-Baku flight was redirected to the "Red Channel" while attempting to leave the customs area through the "Green Channel" clearance system. The passenger's hand luggage and baggage were inspected using a stationary X-ray scanner.
As suspicious images were detected during the inspection, a detailed customs examination of the hand luggage and baggage was conducted. As a result, a large quantity of undeclared medicines — 16,036 units of 36 different types — was discovered.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
