European Championship held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, has concluded, APA reports.
Following the Greco-Roman wrestling team, our national freestyle wrestling team also conquered the top of Europe. Winning 3 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medal, our team collected 152 points and became European champion for the 6th time. Our national team finished 58 points ahead of Georgia, which took 2nd place. Armenia came in third with 73 points.
Before this, Azerbaijan was the strongest country on the continent in this discipline in 2009, 2017, 2022, 2023, and 2025.
In terms of medal quality, our national team achieved its best result in the last 17 years in Albania. 3 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medals mark our best performance in freestyle wrestling at a European Championship since 2009.
Strong showing — 79 points clear of Armenia and a 17-year high for gold medals.
