The Boxing World Cup held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, has concluded, Apasport.az reports.
The Azerbaijani national team achieved a historic result in the competition, which featured 400 athletes from 49 countries.
For the first time, the team won 3 gold and 1 bronze medal at the World Cup.
In the final, Subhan Mamedov (50 kg) faced Issam Bensayara (Morocco). Our boxer won all three rounds and secured a 5:0 (30:27, 30:27, 29:28, 29:28, 30:27) victory, claiming the gold medal.
Following him, Mahammad Abdullayev (+90 kg) also reached the top of the podium. In the decisive bout, he defeated Davit Chaloyan (Armenia) with a 3:2 (29:28, 28:29, 28:29, 29:28, 29:28) score, securing the team’s third gold medal and playing Azerbaijan’s national anthem for the third time in Brazil.
In the first session of the finals, Saidjamshid Jafarov (75 kg) became the World Cup champion, while Nabi Isgandarov (70 kg) had earlier won a bronze medal.
As a result, the Azerbaijani men’s national team finished second in the team standings with 3 gold and 1 bronze medal. The host nation surpassed them only by the number of silver medals.
Note that the team, which participated with 6 male boxers, will return home on April 29.
