In the Polish city of Jarosław, a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen attacked five people with a knife on the grounds of a Benedictine convent, UA News reports.
One person was killed in the attack, and four others were injured. According to preliminary police reports, the man stabbed four men and one woman. Law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene detained the 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen.
“Police received a report and then went to the scene. It turned out that a Ukrainian citizen had attacked a man with a knife. Law enforcement officers detained a 31-year-old foreign national,” said Anna Długosz, a spokesperson for the district police department in Yaroslavl.
Five victims were taken to the hospital. Three men sustained serious injuries. Later, the police reported that one of the wounded men had died. According to law enforcement, clergy are among the victims. However, it is currently unknown who the injured woman is or whether she belongs to the community of Benedictine nuns.
Law enforcement officers continue to work at the scene. The suspect’s motives have not yet been determined. Investigators are working to establish the circumstances and the detailed sequence of events.
