Ukrainian strikes overnight on September 17 reportedly caused fires at an oil refinery in Russia’s Yaroslavl region and a military airfield in the Rostov region, APA reports.
A major fire was reported at the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl. Yaroslavl Governor Mikhail Yevrayev warned of a drone threat in the region and said air defense systems had been activated.
According to the governor, the route from Yaroslavl toward Moscow was temporarily closed. Russian authorities have not yet provided official information on the extent of damage caused by the reported attack.
The Yaroslavl refinery reportedly processes around 15 million tonnes of crude oil annually and is among Russia’s five largest oil refineries. Ukrainian forces have reportedly targeted the facility at least eight times in 2026.
Separately, a strike in Russia’s Rostov region reportedly caused a fire in an aircraft parking area at a military airfield.
There has been no official information so far on the extent of damage at the airfield.
