Trial date set for Ekrem İmamoğlu and 401 others in Istanbul corruption case

The date for the trial of 402 defendants, including Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was removed from his post as part of the “corruption” investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, has been set, APA reports, citing Turkish media.

According to the decision of the Istanbul 40th High Criminal Court, the trial will begin on March 9, 2026, in the courtroom located in the Marmara Penitentiary Complex.

According to the information, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has prepared an indictment in the “corruption” case against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, and the document includes 402 suspects, 105 of whom are in custody. The prepared indictment was accepted by the Istanbul 40th High Criminal Court.

In the indictment, Ekrem İmamoğlu was charged with 142 counts. The prosecution is demanding that he be sentenced to between 828 years and 2 months and 2,352 years in prison.

The document contains accusations against İmamoğlu on numerous articles, including “establishing and leading an organization for the purpose of committing a crime,” “bribery,” “laundering proceeds of crime,” and “fraud by causing damage to state institutions.” The charges also include acts such as illegal collection and dissemination of personal data, concealment of evidence, interception of communications, damage to state property, interference in tenders, and violation of environmental and tax legislation.
