The statement of theVerkhovna Rada of Ukraine on holding the presidential elections after the war and when peace is fully restored in the country has not gathered enough votes, APA reports citing UNIAN.
According to the report, the document gained the support of 218 MPs instead of 226 and did not pass the discussion.
The document emphasizes that the Ukrainian parliament pays special attention to the institutional continuity of power, especially under martial law conditions, as enshrined in the Constitution: "The document also mentions that, in accordance with Article 108 of the Constitution, Volodymyr Zelenskyy must fulfill his duties until the new head of state begins their term."
The draft resolution also reflects that Russia's views on the illegitimacy of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky are intended to distract attention.
Additionally, it is noted that the martial law regime and statements about the illegitimacy of the Ukrainian President are nothing more than a move by Russia to divert attention.
