Türkiye intends to deepen cooperation with Japan in the field of the defense industry, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in an interview with Japan’s Nikkei Asia newspaper, APA reports.

The minister noted that Türkiye is one of the leading countries in the production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and that Ankara is interested in expanding defense industry ties with Tokyo.

“Türkiye and Japan have complementary capabilities, and we believe there is strong potential for mutually beneficial cooperation,” the minister stressed.

According to him, Türkiye’s UAV and drone technologies have proven themselves in various operational environments and create significant opportunities for joint development and co-production with Japan, particularly in the areas of coastal and border security.

The minister also stated that progress has been made in negotiations on a social security agreement between Türkiye and Japan. According to him, recent discussions have yielded positive results, and the parties hope to reach an agreement in the near future.
