The Hungarian government remains opposed to Ukraine's hasty admission to the European Union and believes the country should seek accession based on common criteria, stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán, APA reports.

"We do not support any kind of accelerated accession," she said in an interview with ATV regarding Ukraine's accession to the EU. According to her, this issue should be decided "solely on the basis of the achievements" of the Ukrainian authorities in the accession negotiations.

Orbán recalled that, when and if negotiations on this issue are completed, a referendum will be held in Hungary on the issue of Ukraine's admission to the EU, the results of which will be binding.
