The Ministry of Defense announced that two additional Patriot air defense systems have been deployed to defend Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure and have been placed on combat duty, Ministry of Defense said, APA reports.

As noted, the receipt of additional systems became possible thanks to recent agreements with the German government.

The Ministry of Defense says that Patriot is capable of operating on a wide range of air targets, in particular:

  • aerodynamic,
  • ballistic,
  • including high-speed.

The complex's radar provides simultaneous detection and tracking of a significant number of objects, and interceptors, particularly PAC-3 modifications, are used to engage targets with direct guidance, which is crucial for missile defense.

According to the Defense Department, one Patriot battery can detect up to a hundred air targets and track several of them simultaneously. Automated operating modes allow for reducing the time to respond to threats.

Patriot is capable of hitting air targets at altitudes of up to 24 km and distances of up to 160 km, covering large areas.

"Currently, Patriot air defense systems protect Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure. They reduce losses from enemy attacks with cruise and ballistic missiles on energy and civilian facilities," the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
