German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has hit a new low in public approval, with only 10% of Germans saying they are satisfied or very satisfied with his work in the latest survey by public broadcaster ARD, the lowest rating for a chancellor in the poll's history since 1997, APA reports.
According to the survey, which was published on Thursday, 88% are not very satisfied or not at all satisfied with the chancellor. At the beginning of September, Merz still had a 13% approval rating.
The representative survey, conducted by pollster Infratest dimap among 1,303 eligible voters, also offers little cause for celebration for Merz's party, the Christian Democrats (CDU). If a general election were held on Sunday, the CDU and their Bavarian sister party the Christian Social Union (CSU) would secure 20% - one percentage point less than at the start of September.
