In comments to The Telegraph, German Air Force commander Gen. Holger Neumann stressed that in the event of an armed conflict, NATO forces could carry out a large-scale retaliatory strike on Russian military sites.
Neumann said potential targets include Kaliningrad Oblast, the Kola Peninsula, Black Sea waters and the St. Petersburg area, where Russia’s fleet is based.
“If it comes to conflict, and I hope it never does, we will defend every inch of our territory,” Neumann said.
“If someone calls me right now and says that situation has arisen, we must be ready immediately. And we are ready,” he said.
Neumann said Germany is sharply increasing its air defense stockpiles as part of its rearmament program, including Patriot, IRIS-T and Arrow 3 systems.
