The Paris Prosecutor's Office is investigating allegations that Apple illegally collected and secretly recorded thousands of conversations between users using its voice assistant Siri, APA reports, citing Politico.

According to the report, the investigation was launched based on a complaint filed by the French Human Rights League. The complaint is based on the statements of Thomas le Bonnec, a former Apple contractor who worked for Globe Technical Services in Ireland.

This person has been responsible for analyzing Siri voices at the company since 2019. According to him, he listened to thousands of such audio recordings, some of which contained personal and confidential information about users, and sometimes it was possible to identify them.

Although Le Bonnec initially appealed to the data protection authorities of France and Ireland, they refused to conduct an investigation.

Apple's representative in France told journalists that the company "has never used Siri data for marketing profiling, has not provided it to advertising services or sold it to third parties."
