EU’s imports from Russia exceed aid allocated to Ukraine, says Swedish foreign minister

The European Union's imports from Russia exceed its aid to Ukraine, said Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard, APA reports.

The minister appeared before the press before the meeting of the European Union Council and presented a table reflecting the amount of aid allocated to Ukraine and products imported from Russia.

According to the minister, since the full-scale Russian aggression, the European Union has allocated 187 billion euros in aid to Ukraine. However, during the same period, Russian oil and gas imports to the EU amounted to 201 billion euros, and 311 billion euros together with other imported products.

"This is simply shameful. Now everyone is talking about peace talks, but reasonable peace talks will not be possible without increasing our support for Ukraine and putting pressure on Russia. A very good initiative is to use frozen assets for the benefit of Ukraine," Stenergard said.
