A drone crashed on the morning of September 24 near the town of Solca in Romania's Suceava County after entering the country's airspace. No casualties or material damage were reported, Digi24 reports.
The first air alert of the night was issued in the northern part of Tulcea County. Radars operated by Romania's Ministry of National Defence detected a group of aerial targets over Ukrainian territory, close to the Romanian border. At 04:41, an RO-Alert warning was issued, while two Spanish F-18 fighter jets took off from Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base to monitor the situation. No incursion into Romanian airspace was recorded and the alert was lifted at 05:44.
Later, Romania's radar surveillance system detected an aerial target over Ukraine, close to the border in the northern part of Botoșani County. Two Romanian Air Force F-16 fighter jets took off from Borcea Air Base to monitor the situation.
According to the Ministry of National Defence, the aerial target entered Romanian airspace through the northern part of Botoșani County. At 06:26, an RO-Alert warning was issued for Botoșani and Suceava counties.
The Defence Ministry later said the aerial target remained in Romanian airspace for around four minutes before crashing near Solca in Suceava County.
Teams from the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrived at the scene, secured the perimeter and established that it was a small drone. There was no fire at the site. At 07:21, an IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter took off from Bacău Air Base to monitor the situation in the area.
Because of the warning, school classes in four settlements in the area were suspended until 10:00. The decision was taken following recommendations from the Ministry of Education to school inspectorates to suspend classes in the event of a drone warning.
This is the third RO-Alert warning related to drones received in the northern counties of Moldova over the past two weeks.
