Attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure facilities are inadmissible and prohibited for all parties involved in the Ukrainian conflict, a senior UN official on humanitarian issues said, APA reports.

"Attacks directed against civilians and civilian objects are prohibited under international humanitarian law," Lisa Doughten, OCHA's (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) Director of Financing and Partnerships Division for the office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said at the UN Security Council’s session on Ukraine.

"Indiscriminate attacks are also strictly prohibited," she said. "Parties to the conflict must take constant care to spare all civilians and civilian objects, including infrastructure essential for civilians' survival."

Doughen addressed the UN Security Council’s meeting on Ukraine on behalf of Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths.
