Turkish Armed Forces General Staff Chief visits US

Following Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul’s visit, Turkish Armed Forces General Staff Chief Army General Yaşar Buyukanıt is on visit to the US, APA’s Turkey bureau reports. Yaşar Buyukanıt is expected to express strict position on the claims on Armenian genocide.
Buyukanıt will express Turkey’s position on the discussion of alleged Armenian genocide in the Congress at the meetings in Pentagon and with Vice President Richard Cheney.
APA’s Turkey bureau reports quoting to diplomatic sources that different bodies of the country have a plan against alleged Armenian genocide and any country to recognize the alleged genocide will meet Turkey’s strict reaction.
Foreign Minister Abdulah Gul stated at high level meetings in the US that Ankara and Washington do not want to sacrifice 55-year alliance to claims.
The companies of the countries that make decision on the recognition of alleged Armenian genocide are not allowed to participate in large-scale tenders, interparliamentary meetings are suspended, and ambassadors are called back.
Three delegations composed of Turkish parliamentarians will visit Washington until April for the Congress to give up the discussion of the bill on alleged Armenian genocide. /APA/
