“European Parliament supports friendship relations with CIS countries, especially with South Caucasus region, as a structure joining European countries�, the office of EP new president Hans Gert Poettering told APA.
EP supports peace and long-term development in South Caucasus. New EP president was elected yesterday. Winning 65 percent of votes, Poetttering will take up his position of presidency till 2009. Hans, 61, has been a member of the European Parliament since 1979. After graduating from Bonn University, the faculty of legislation, policy and history, he got his Doctor’s degree in New York University. He has cooperated with EP Christian Democrat Union. /APA/
