Improving the legal framework for competition in Azerbaijan should be a continuous process, Azer Amiraslanov, Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee on Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship, said during his speech at the Third National Competition Forum held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, a competitive environment can be formed not through the activities of a single government agency, a specific code, or an individual measure, but as a result of comprehensive and systematic efforts.
Amiraslanov noted that the approval of the National Action Plan for 2027–2029 on the Development of Competition and Prevention of Monopolistic Activities is based precisely on this approach.
"At a time when common rules of the game in the global economy are being violated, trade restrictions, aggressive protectionism, and sanctions are being imposed, Azerbaijan is establishing a fair trade and investment regime with its partners based on mutual benefit," he stated.
The committee chairman emphasized that under market economy conditions, competition should be conducted fairly and regulated by rules. The adoption of the Competition Code also serves this purpose.
He added that in recent years, initiatives have been implemented to support local economic entities through the organization of international investment forums, the introduction of public-private partnership and investment promotion mechanisms, as well as the development of relevant infrastructure.
Amiraslanov stated that the Milli Majlis will continue its cooperation with the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control to improve competition legislation.
