During January-June 2025, 21,814.6 tons of crude palm oil and its fractions worth 31 million 252.2 thousand US dollars were imported to Azerbaijan, APA-Economics reports citing the report of the State Statistical Committee.
According to calculations, compared to the corresponding period of 2024, this indicator decreased by 9% or 2.2 thousand tons in volume terms, and increased by 10.1% or 2.9 million US dollars in value terms. During the first 6 months of 2024, 23,965 tons of crude palm oil and its fractions worth 28 million 374 thousand US dollars were imported to Azerbaijan.
During this period, the average import price of 1 kg of palm oil imported into the country increased by 22% compared to the previous period and amounted to 2.44 manat. During the reporting period, 742.8 tons of palm oil were imported to Azerbaijan from Malaysia and 21,071 tons from Indonesia.
It should be noted that palm oil, which has been the main substitute for trans fats for the past 30 years, is widely used in the food industry, especially by manufacturers of confectionery, ice cream, chocolate, and chips.
It should be noted that palm oil is also widely used in the production of margarine all over the world. During the reporting period, 23,512 tons of margarine were produced in Azerbaijan.
