More than 61 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas have been delivered to European countries via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) since the pipeline became operational, APA reports.
The 6th meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic, Industrial and Technological Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Hellenic Republic was held in Athens under the co-chairmanship of Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Theoharis Theoharis.
According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy, the meeting noted the contribution made to the development of bilateral relations by the meeting between President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in New York in September last year, as well as by the political consultations held in Athens in May this year.
It was stated that Azerbaijan’s growing role in Europe’s energy security, the development of the Middle Corridor, and new energy and transport links create favorable opportunities for expanding cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting noted that trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Greece increased by 27.6 percent in 2025 and by 25.35 percent in the first half of the current year.
The sides discussed increasing mutual investments, promoting direct contacts between the private sectors and encouraging joint projects in order to make broader use of the economic potential of the two countries. In this context, the importance of the Azerbaijan-Greece Business Forum held as part of the meeting was highlighted.
The meeting reviewed cooperation in trade, business and investment, industry, small and medium-sized enterprises, energy, transport and logistics, agriculture, digital technologies, environment and customs.
Within the framework of energy cooperation, the strategic role of the Southern Gas Corridor and the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector in strengthening Europe’s energy security and diversifying gas supplies was emphasized.
It was stated that Azerbaijan exported 1.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Greece in 2025 and approximately 700 million cubic meters in the first eight months of the current year.
Since TAP became operational, a total of 6 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas has been supplied to Greece, while 61.4 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas has been delivered to European countries.
Information was also provided on projects implemented by Azerbaijan to develop its renewable energy potential and create green energy links between the Caspian region and Europe.
Taking into account Greece’s role in the energy system of Southeastern Europe, the importance of developing cooperation in green energy, electricity infrastructure and regional interconnections, energy efficiency and hydrogen was highlighted.
In the field of transport and logistics, it was noted that transit freight transportation between the two countries increased by approximately 90 percent last year.
Against the backdrop of the growing importance of the Middle Corridor, the sides exchanged views on developing connectivity between the South Caucasus, Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, expanding port and maritime cooperation, as well as establishing direct air links.
The meeting also reviewed opportunities for cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, innovation and space technologies.
The cooperation launched between Azercosmos and the Hellenic Space Center was positively assessed.
The importance of encouraging Greek companies to make more active use of investment opportunities in Azerbaijan, including the opportunities offered by the Alat Free Economic Zone, was also emphasized.
The development of cooperation in tourism, education and culture was also among the issues discussed.
At the end of the meeting, a protocol on the results of the session and a “Joint Action Plan in the Field of Tourism for 2026-2028” were signed.
