To replace carbon fuels and solve climate problems, nuclear power generation facilities with a capacity of about 40 GW must be built every year over the next 25 years, Deputy Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mikhail Chudakov said, APA reports citing TASS.

"If we talk about replacing carbon fuel, then we need to build nuclear facilities that can generate 40 GW every year up to 2050. However, at this point we are losing the battle for a clean climate. Political disagreements greatly hinder the progress of the nuclear power sector," the official said at the plenary session of the Atomexpo-2024 international forum.

Nuclear power along with alternative energy sources are required to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said at the nuclear energy summit in Brussels.
