Azerbaijan is developing renewable energy capacities and cross-border energy transmission lines – green energy corridors – in the region, Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov said at the session titled “Regional Energy Connectivity for Sustainable Development” organized within the framework of the Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, by the end of next year, 11 solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 2 gigawatts will be integrated into the national energy grid:

“The share of renewables in installed capacity will reach 39% in 2030 and 43% in 2035. This will make it possible to save an additional 1.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which will be directed to export and will prevent millions of tons of greenhouse gas emissions.”

In addition, we plan to create approximately 8 gigawatts of capacity from onshore and offshore renewable energy sources by 2032. This energy will be exported through four interconnectors and will also be used to meet the energy demand of future data and artificial intelligence centers.

“The Caspian–Black Sea–Europe energy corridor will utilize Azerbaijan’s vast renewable energy potential, including wind energy opportunities in the Caspian Sea,” he added.
